Representative Darin LaHood cosponsored a resolution this week honoring National Catholic Schools week.

The 18th district of Illinois is home to 28 Catholic Schools. LaHood, a graduate of a Catholic college and high school, released a statement on Tuesday stating, “I know firsthand the lasting value of a Catholic education. I want to express my gratitude to those who continue to invest in the youth of our country.”

The theme for 2016 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”

A press release states that over 6,594 Catholic schools in the United States provide quality education to all types of communities, with graduation rates of 99 percent and college attendance rates of 85.7 percent.

National Catholic Schools week begins the last Sunday of January each year.
