The Jacksonville Bob Freesen YMCA continued its summer theme of leadership on Wednesday by welcoming Congressman Darin LaHood.

LaHood spoke with around 50 students, answered questions and provided valuable information for anyone interested in pursuing a career in politics.

“I use to participate in YMCA camp when I was a little boy, some of the best memories I have. I told the kids a little about my job, the importance of democracy and voting and how lucky they are to live in America,” says LaHood.

YMCA Executive Director Mary Henry says it means a lot for political figures like LaHood and Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer to speak with the kids.

“They have been really responsive this summer. We took them to the Governor Duncan House and different places that we don’t normally take them to,” says Henry.

Henry plans on taking the children to City Hall and the Morgan County Courthouse in the near future.
