Jacksonville’s state senator is facing more scrutiny over tax liens filed against his businesses.
The State Journal-Register reports Sam McCann’s two construction companies face liens filed by the Internal Revenue Service for more than $185,000.
Additionally, the SJ-R cites documents from the Macoupin County Courthouse that show a lien from the Illinois Department of Employment Security against McCann Construction Services in March, alleging more than $19,000 in unpaid unemployment insurance claims and other issues.
The paper also criticizes McCann a handful of other financial matters outlined in court documents.
McCann told the SJ-R he blames the six-figure lien on confusion over different employer identification numbers and says he’s being harassed for money not owed.
