Illinois farmers reported strong progress in the fields after a warm and dry week.
The West Southwest District received zero precipitation for the week, down 0.75 inches from normal. Temperatures were up almost six degrees from normal after reporting an average of 67.7 degrees.
USDA crop statistician Mark Schleusener reviews the latest numbers for corn and soybeans in the state.
As for local corn, 97 percent of corn is mature and 52 percent is harvested. Local soybeans show that 92 percent of the crop is turning color, 74 percent is dropping leaves and 31 percent is harvested.
Local topsoil was 19 percent short, 71 percent adequate and four percent surplus. Subsoil was 30 percent short, 66 percent adequate and two percent surplus.
