The MacMurray College American Sign Language Club is promoting National Deaf Awareness Month this month with weekly events that are open to the public.
Events include weekly sign language classes, a game night, and a “sign and dine” off-campus event, as well as silent days on campus.
The capstone event is happening next Saturday from 10 a-m to 4 p-m in the college library. It’s called “Deaf Town- The Deaf Experience,” and it gives hearing people in the community a simulation of what it’s like to be deaf. The event will include a demonstration of what a cochlear implant looks like.
Sign language classes will be every Monday this month at 4:30 p-m in MacMurray Hall. The Sign and Dine event will be held Thursday, September 17th at Los Rancheros restaurant at 5 p-m. Game night will be held Thursday, September 24th from 6 to 8 p-m at the student center.
