New Berlin’s school board president has resigned

Chris Gordon made that announcement last night during a school board meeting. Last week, Gordon pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to two years of probation and mandatory mental health treatment.

Gordon’s attorney says he walked into another man’s house earlier this year with a loaded handgun and threatened to kill him after Gordon had found out his wife was cheating on him with a man he called his best friend, and months later, he said she asked for a divorce.

Last night, Gordon stepped down as president after a heated argument between himself and another board member. Here’s audio courtesy of our reporting partners at WICS ABC Newschannel 20.

“Nope, I’m going to make this easy for you. I will resign my presidency effective immediately. I know where you stand morally. You made the decision. You will be getting the person who destroyed my life what he wanted. I understand where you stand morally,” Gordon said when addressing the board.

School board member Bill Alexander told Channel 20 many board members recommended Gordon take some time to regroup and compose, but instead, he resigned.

Gordon said last night he thought of the man he claimed was cheating on his wife as his brother before learning of the multi-year affair, and said it’s a time in his life he would like to get back. He added he’s received the mental health help he needed.

Gordon remains a school board member and volunteer football coach.

Alexander, who was a vice-president, will now serve as president.
