Future Passavant Area Hospital president and CEO Harry Schmidt is excited to get to work.

Schmidt, the Vice President of Facilities Management at Memorial Health System, tells WLDS-WEAI News he was “humbled” the hospital board selected him to ensure Passavant’s mission of improving the health and lives of residents in the Morgan County.

Schmidt complimented the hospital’s quality measures and hopes to continue the great work current Passavant CEO Doug Rahn has established over the last three years.

“I’ve had the opportunity to assist Passavant with the integration into the health system when the affiliated over two years ago. I’m familiar with the organization.  Passavant has a great story to tell with a rich and deep history of serving the community. I’m just really excited to be part of the team,” says Schmidt.

During his time at Memorial Medical Center, Schmidt was instrumental in establishing the Advanced Care by Design expansion project.

“It was the largest expansion of the bricks and mortar facility in the 115 year history of the organization. I was fortunate enough to lead a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of physicians and nurses to get the facility right and to deliver a high quality health care for the Springfield area. I’m also proud of the health campus planning and development of the medical office building on the Passavant campus. We put that up a couple years back.”

Schmidt says systematic planning process for fiscal year 2017 and beyond are already being put in place at Passavant. With the hospital “performing well and providing solid local health coverage”, Schmidt doesn’t see a need for significant changes.

Schmidt takes over for Rahn on January 1st.
