A special board meeting was held Monday night in South Jacksonville to welcome a new trustee into the village.
Paula Belobrajdic-Stewart, who recently completed her first year as co-chair of the Concert in the Cornfield Celebration, was sworn in last night at Village Hall.
Belobrajdic-Stewart says she is humbled and grateful for this opportunity.
“It is a time as a village resident that as many as possible of need to step up and do what we can to put our village back on the right track. There are so many great people in this community.”
Belobrajdic-Stewart has been attending village meetings frequently over the past few months and hopes to be a strong voice for the community.
“If you are really a resident that wants to try and make a difference and be a part of the solution, you should start attending meetings to hear both sides. You assume when someone is elected that they are representing you with the best of their abilities. I am certainly going to try my best to represent all sides.”
Stewart was nominated for the position several months ago by trustee members and will be replacing former trustee Sonnie Smith. Smith resigned on July 2nd after village residents began to question the legality of her catering business, which worked closely with the Concert in the Cornfield events.
