Jury selection has been completed for a first-degree murder trial in Morgan County Court.
Twenty-year-old Avery Berry is accused of shooting Marcus Jackson at a party at a house on North Fayette Street back in October of 2014. Previous police testimony indicated Jackson and Berry’s half-brother, Shaquille Berry, entered into an altercation during a party.
Police said Avery Berry interrupted the fight and shot Jackson four to six times with what witnesses say was a small pistol.
Avery Berry has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A motion to continue the case by Berry’s attorney, Bruce Locher, was denied last week.
Four jury members were selected this morning, with another eight picked this afternoon for the ten-jury panel and two alternates. Opening statements begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
