Morgan County Deputies made a pair of meth related arrests yesterday after a short high speed chase.

Sheriff Randy Duvendack told WLDS-WEAI News that the situation started at around 12:50 p.m. when an off-duty deputy spotted a vehicle on Strawn Crossing Road that the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department had been looking for.

Duvendack says the off-duty deputy met up with the car, driven by 28-year-old Justin Stone of rural Jacksonville, at the intersection of Strawn Crossing and Lair Road. The off-duty deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but Stone averted the deputy by entering a ditch and speeding away.

During this time, the deputy noted the individuals in the car were “throwing materials” out of the vehicle.

Duvendack says the vehicle proceeded down Strawn Crossing for a half mile, but crashed into a ditch when attempting to make a turn on Wheeler Road.

Stone was arrested by assisting deputies shortly after the crash along with 27-year-old Dustin Mehrhoff, of the 1-hundred block of Howe, who was in the passenger seat.

Stone was booked later that night for participation in methamphetamine manufacturing, possession of meth manufacturing material, aggravated fleeing of police, leaving the scene of an accident and driving in the wrong lane.

Mehrhoff was booked for meth manufacturing, possession of meth manufacturing material, use of property to violate the meth control act and illegal disposal of meth manufacturing waste.

Duvendack says another individual was in the car and suffered serious injuries during the crash. The individual, who is not being named at this time, was taken to Memorial Hospital.

Stone and Mehrhoff remain behind bars.
