A Jacksonville man was found guilty by a twelve-member jury yesterday afternoon for marijuana trafficking charges.
Twenty-nine-year-old Jevon Walton of the 400 block of West Douglas was convicted of possession with the intent to deliver cannabis in a two-day trial. Walton was arrested in March of last year after an Illinois State Police investigation that had begun in January.
Morgan County Assistant State’s Attorney Chad Turner says nearly three pounds of weed was seized from the residence of Querida Guider in the 2-hundred block of East Beecher.
“The defendant argued that the marijuana that was found wasn’t his. The defendant’s fingerprints were found on the bags that were containing the cannabis. Basically, the amount that was found and that had the defendant’s fingerprints on it is an amount that’s generally associated with distribution. it’s certainly not a personal use amount,” says Turner.
“In addition to that, the state had a witness who had purchased marijuana from the defendant at that location two days prior to the execution of the search warrant.”
The case has been set for sentencing on February 23rd. Walton faces three to fourteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Walton was represented by attorney Michael Drake.
Querida Guider is still facing manufacture or delivery of cannabis charges. She’s due in court next on February 4th.
