O’Connell named next Illinois College Provost

Illinois College has named Catharine O’Connell as its next Provost and Dean of the College.

O’Connell comes from Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, where she served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Life and Dean of the College.

According to a press release, O’Connell previously served as Provost at Defiance College in Ohio and Dean at Cabrini College in Pennsylvania.

The Provost and Dean of College role at Illinois College has the responsibility of providing strategic leadership, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning and service and promoting a culture of academic quality and student success.

Illinois College has been searching for a new Provost and Dean of the College since November, when Elizabeth Tobin announced her retirement from the position, effective June 30th. Tobin has been with the college since 2006.

O’Connell takes over her new role on July 1st.
