Passavant Area Hospital’s Imaging Services Department has begun utilizing a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging unit.

The MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T Open Bore MRI system, which provides a non-invasive diagnostic imaging exam of soft tissue, bone, brain and muscles, has become one of the fastest growing medical diagnostic test in the United States.

Passavant will now have access to more diagnostic imaging of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, breast imaging and oncology.

This will also allow for faster and more comfortable exams for patients. The system’s ultra-short bore (145cm) will help to alleviate patient’s concerns of claustrophobia and many exams can be performed with the patient’s head completely outside of the imaging unit.

At 1.5T, the MAGNETROM Aera’s magnetic field equals the strongest available in the Jacksonville Area.

The MRI upgrade also included the construction of a dedicated waiting room and patient locker room.
