Passavant launching inpatient dialysis services

Passavant Area Hospital is launching a new dialysis program for patients in the Jacksonville area.

Director of Marketing and Communications Lori Hartz says today is the first day inpatient dialysis services are being offered at the hospital.

“We will be offering acute dialysis services to any patients that are here recovering from an acute illness,” says Hartz.

“Second, there is an episodic dialysis program for patients with borderline renal failure, who develop renal failure while hospitalized. For patients who are already on dialysis and are here for another reason, we are going to be able to offer them dialysis. If they develop a need for dialysis while they are at inpatient we can offer that too.”

Hartz says inpatient dialysis requires “detailed training and specialized care” and adds Passavant developed the services once a need grew among patients.

“We want to be able to offer complete service for someone who comes here for any illness. When we can identify a person’s treatment care plan that they will need during their stay here, we want to make sure we can address that.”

“Those patients who needed that service before would have to go elsewhere. We are going to offer that now, so patients from the area that want their care at Passavant, we can also accommodate that need.”

That’s not all that’s happening at Passavant. The Memorial Weight Loss and Wellness Program launched at the end of July and JointWorks, a program dedicated to joint education, starts later this month. Hartz says the hospital opened the remodeled cafeteria recently too.
