Twenty-three hospitals in Illinois, including Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, will be penalized for high rates of infections and injuries.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the hospitals were rated on a score of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst. Any hospital that scored higher than 6.75 will be penalized. Passavant received a score of 7.375.
AS a result, Passavant and the other hospitals on the list will lose one percent of their Medicare reimbursements. The Illinois Hospital Association estimates it will cost $12-million.
Excluded were critical access hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals and units, long-term care hospitals, psychiatric hospitals and units, children’s hospitals and certain cancer hospitals.
