The EDAP certification means Passavant provides comprehensive emergency services and meets the defined pediatric emergency care requirements.
Hospitals with the EDAP certification receive a site visit by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Emergency Medical Services for Children program. This allows the staff to verify the Emergency Department and Pediatric Department are capable of meeting several care standards.
Professionals must be specially trained in pediatric emergency and critical care, have adequate staffing and provisions for pediatric consultation and backup support and have available pediatric equipment, supplies and medication.
There must also be protocols for the treatment of critically ill and injured children.
