Property tax multiplier set in Morgan County

State officials are releasing new information that will impact the amount of taxes paid by property owners in Morgan County.

The “final multiplier” for Morgan County, as calculated by the Illinois Department of Revenue, is 1.0171 for 2015.

Morgan County Assessor Allen Vogt says that will have a varied impact on property owners.

“It’s going to be a 1.71 percent increase in the assessment of their property, as applied on the tax bill. It’s going to vary on the amount of taxes based on what kind of exemptions they have,” says  Vogt.

“Seniors should have a senior freeze and not see any increase from it. And, the amount of tax increase is going to be based on the tax rates themselves, because there are many different rates here in the county,” he adds.

Vogt says the multiplier last year was 1.0000, which he said was also the tentative equalization factor for this year, prior to changes being made by the Department of Revenue’s review board.
