Recycling drive looking to bring benches to Jacksonville’s future dog park

A Jacksonville foundation is looking to turn used caps and lids into benches for the city’s future dog park.

The Jacksonville Dream Center Foundation and the Bark Park have been promoting “A Bench for Caps” for the past few weeks.

Cheri Fry works closely with both organizations and says donation totals have been “pretty great”.

“Most of the people in Jacksonville put their recycling out. If they have a trash can for recycling, all they have to do is take the caps off their bottles and put the caps in a zip lock bag or shoe box. When they get a bag full drop it off at one of our locations. Everyone thinks recycling is a big thing and they are learning that this is the way of the future,” says Fry.

Drop off sites include P.A.W.S, Morgan County Animal Control, Hampton Inn, Pet Supplies Plus or at the Levitt Amp Concert Series each Friday on the Downtown Square.

The recycling is being done in Evansville, Indiana. Fry gives a visual of how many caps need to be collected for each bench.

“If you visualize those 55 gallon contractor bags, then ten full bags equals one bench. That is why we are hoping the whole community joins in. We know if the community gets behind it we will have enough caps to get all the benches we need.”
