The former police chief of Carrollton is staying in the force.

The Greene Prairie Press reports Kenny Kallal will stay on as a patrolman after a decision made by aldermen at last night’s City Council meeting.

The Greene County newspaper reports Reg Pohlman will stay on as police chief. The decision was announced after nearly three hours of closed session. A police committee composed of city council members reportedly followed the recommendation of the committee.

Kallal was placed on administrative leave several weeks ago after it was announced that the city clerk was not under investigation by Illinois State Police.

Greene County State’s Attorney Caleb Briscoe says Kallal turned documents over to the state police, but no action was taken. The city clerk had been investigating the police department for “suspicious activity” regarding misuse of funds.

The police department, and Kallal specifically, have also been the target of several complaints by Carrollton residents.
