Traffic is expected to pick up this week on Morton Avenue.

According to a press release from the Illinois Department of Transportation, road resurfacing starts today and will continue through the fall of 2017, weather permitting.

The work will require lane closures. During the resurfacing of the center lanes, drivers are reminded to enter and exit adjoining properties with right turns only.

The projects include resurfacing, bridge repairs, sidewalk improvements and traffic signal modernization stretching along Morton Avenue from Mound Road to Hardin Avenue.

Illinois Valley Paving of Springfield is the contractor of the $10.5 million project.

Please use extreme caution while traveling through work zones.
