Jacksonville Police have arrested 61-year-old Robert Gill, the Jacksonville man accused of murdering his former son-in-law last Friday in the police department parking lot.

Thirty-six-year-old Andrew Maul was shot dead in his pickup truck at around 6 p-m. Witnesses say another truck left the scene after the shooting in an otherwise-empty lot as officers were in the middle of a shift change.

Three counts of first-degree murder were filed yesterday by the Morgan County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Gill had been in a Springfield-area hospital after being involved in a crash on Markham Road in the rural Chapin area. According to a press release, he was released yesterday from the hospital at around 2 p-m and taken into custody without incident.

Gill is being held at the Morgan County Jail on a 3-million-dollar bond.

Funeral services for Maul will be held at 10:00 this morning at Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Maul’s friends say they’re planning to ride their UTVs as part of the funeral procession and drive by his business to lay flowers at the sign.
