Breaking news at this hour: one person is dead after a two-vehicle accident on Route 267 two miles south of Greenfield.

Illinois State Police reports it happened last night shortly after 11:00.

A vehicle being driven by 23-year-old Devan Antrobus of Greenfield was headed southbound, while another vehicle driven by 51-year-old Ronald Chapman of Gillespie was headed northbound. Police say Antrobus’ vehicle crossed the center line into the path of Chapman, sideswiped his vehicle and then left the roadway.   Reports indicate Antrobus’ vehicle then caught fire. The Greenfield Fire Department was among the agencies that responded.

Antrobus was pronounced dead at the scene by the Greene County Coroner, according to state police.

The road was shut down until around 5:00 this morning while state police crash reconstruction officials were on scene.

No citations have been issued at this time. The wreck is still under investigation.
