South Jax acquires land for new water tower

Property in South Jacksonville has been set aside to construct a new water tower.

Village trustees accepted Lot 5 of Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores during last Thursday’s meeting.

Mayor Steve Waltrip explains how the village acquired the land.

“It went through MDA, the land developer. When we were laying out the project we told them we would like to have a piece of property where we could put a water tower. We got a plot of land, about 150×150, that would be ideal for the village in the future, should village leaders want to build a water tower,” notes Waltrip.

Waltrip says a water tower will be constructed if the village continues to grow.

“We are looking for growth in the village. The present water tower, I’m not sure how it is, but it could use some help. We are going to have development and customers out there that need additional resources. We are just laying out the future possibilities available for the board.”

Code Enforcement Officer Wilbur German tells WLDS-WEAI News construction on the water tower could start at any time in the next 20 years.

The land aquired by the village was free, but Waltrip says a new water tower would be “pretty costly”.
