The second annual Dance and Cheer Showcase for Stevens School of Dance and Gymnastics is taking place next week.
Illinois College’s McGraw Fine Arts Center will host the event, which features 40 dancers and 30 cheerleaders.
Stevens choreographer Calla Kaufmann says the showcase allows friends and family to get a glimpse of what the dancers have been working on for the past year.
“You will be able to see our dance competition team and all-star cheerleading squad do their new competition routines. It is sort of their dress rehearsal with costumes and lights before they get judged on these routines.”
Kaufmann says the dancers continue to show great strides as the showcase nears.
“We have quite a few newbies this year and it is fun to see them grow. I think people will be impressed. Our youngest girls performing are six and it goes up into college girls dancing as well.”
Tickets are on sale at County Market in Jacksonville and Stevens Dance. Tickets at the door on January 31st will cost $8.
The first competition for Stevens will be on February 12th.
