Still no budget, but House takes month-long break

Jacksonville State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer sounds off on House Democrats for adjourning for a month from Springfield.

The House voted 70-43 to approve a $3.7-million spending bill, and 61-52 on a companion measure that would cancel a requirement for the state to repay $454 million borrowed from special funds to fund last year’s budget.

The bill vote was mostly party lines. House Republicans than made a motion for a vote to return to work Friday to continue working on a budget, but motion was ruled out of order. Here’s what Davidsmeyer had to say:

“We heard a lot of talk about compromise. The Democrats decided to ignore their own rules and just adjourn, and they ran out of here quicker than anything,” says Davidsmeyer.

“We want to come back. We want to continue working. We don’t want to wait until April, this can’t wait until April. We need something, we need to come back here and get this done.”

House members aren’t due back in Springfield until April 4th.
