District 117 will be without its superintendent for two weeks in April.

In a Facebook post on Thursday evening, Steve Ptacek explained he will be “physically absent” from the superintendent position from April 6th-18th.

Back in September, Ptacek had surgery to fuse his C6-C7 cervical vertebrae and says it “didn’t take.” Doctors will remove the plate and screws next week to try a different method.

Ptacek added he will “remain in email and phone contact with the district as much as possible.”

Assistant Superintendent Dana Kinley will act as day-to-day superintendent during that time.

In other District 117 news, prepping for the Jacksonville Middle School and LIncoln renovation projects started this week. Ptacek says crews are ready to “start the major renovation projects the day that summer break begins.”
