There will be a delay in 2016 opening of Jacksonville public pool

City officials say the Nichols Park Pool won’t be opening this weekend.

Jacksonville Parks Supervisor Adam Fletcher says the filters in the pool filtration system are nearly 30 years old, and that there’s been a delay in getting the replacement. He says the hope is to get the parts next week.

“Once we get our filters in, we’ll be opening pretty much right after they get put in, we’ll be able to open up to the public,” says Fletcher.

“Unfortunately, we just can’t open the pool without a filtration system. We won’t pass the state inspection without the proper filter system. It won’t take but maybe two to three days to get the filters in, and the pool’s going, and as soon as that happens, we’ll be open for business.”

This is the second time since 2014 that Nichols Park’s pool has closed around the beginning of the season. Previously, the city had to replace a sump pump after a leak was discovered. In 2014, it was closed for over a month.
