High school girls in West Central Illinois have the opportunity to grab a prom dress at a discounted price this weekend.

The first annual Dress for a Cure Fundraiser takes place Saturday and Sunday at Jacksonville High School.

Debbie Pond is part of the Tri-County Relay for Life team and says anyone looking to sell their dress can get the ball rolling by submitting a ten-dollar donation to Relay for Life.

“For each dress you set your own price that you want to ask for. If the dress sells you get the full asking price back. We are also accepting formal wear shoes for five-dollars a pair.”

Pond says the event wouldn’t be making an appearance in Jacksonville without the inspiration from her daughter.

“My youngest daughter found a dress at an event like this before and is something she thought we could do as a fundraiser for Relay for Life. We haven’t had something like this in our area.”

Pond believes Springfield is the only other city in Central Illinois that holds a similar event.

Dress drop off is available tonight from 5:30-7 p.m. at JHS. If you can’t make that time you can contact Pond at 371-3190.

Dress for a Cure runs from 10-4 p.m. on Saturday and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday.
