Jacksonville Police have made two arrests in connection to a stabbing incident in Community Park last week and are investigating a separate slashing incident.

Twenty-five-year-old Michael Smith and 25-year-old Mondre White were both arrested Saturday morning at around 1:15 a-m for aggravated battery, and Smith was also arrested on a Sangamon County warrant for DUI.

Police lieutenant Chris Johnson says the two men arrested knew the victim, who was taken to Passavant Area Hospital after the incident on Wednesday with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the back.

Smith and White remain in custody.

Police are also investigating a slashing incident from over the weekend. According to a press release, city officers responded to the Passavant Area Hospital emergency room in reference to a 25-year-old Jacksonville man being treated for a knife wound.

Officers determined the injury was a slash wound to the victim’s arm. He reportedly told police he believed it happened on West Beecher near South Diamond. Officers are still collecting evidence and identifying witnesses, according to the police department.

The victim continues to receive treatment for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
