The University of Illinois Extension office is hosting an extreme weather seminar in Jacksonville later this month.

Extension Educator Duane Friend talked about the program on WLDS’ “What’s On Your Mind?” on Wednesday.

“This is the time of year for severe weather. It has everything from thunderstorms, to tornadoes and hail. We have had high winds too. Everyone like to talk about the weather,” says Friend.

Friend says the seminar will also cover information on lightning, clouds, flooding, what to look at on a weather map and some of the severe weather myths accepted by the public.

“The very first thing I do is open it up for questions. Usually people have questions they have wondered about their whole lives. This is an opportunity for them to get those questions answered, so we play stump Duane on the first part of the program,” says Friend.

Friend says those in attendance will also learn valuable safety tips during extreme weather situations.

The seminar, which costs $10 per person, runs from 6-8 p.m. on April 26th at the U of I Extension office. Call 243-7424 to register.
