Over-the-year unemployment rates in West Central Illinois showed improvements from the month of August.

According to statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Morgan County went from 6.2 percent to 4.5 percent.  Scott County dropped from 6.1 percent down to 4.5 percent, Greene County dipped from 6.9 percent down to 5.4 percent and Cass County went from 6.8 percent to 5.1 percent.

The unemployment rate in the combined four-county area went from 6.4 percent to 4.8 percent.

Ron Payne with IDES reviews the biggest gains and losses in the job market.

“Educational and health services were up 150 over the year, wholesale trade was up 100, professional and business services and other services sector were both up 75, financial activities were up 50 and information, retail and manufacturing were each up 25. The government sector was down 175 over the year and the leisure and hospitality sectors were down about 150 over the year,”  Payne says.

Payne expects the outdoor sectors to see a reduction in employment due to the changing of seasons.
