The superintendent for the Virginia school district says repairs to the Junior Senior High School gymnasium are right on schedule.
In September, the roof was blown away after winds gusted between 70 and 90 MPH.
After the damage was assessed, the school district began replacing the roof and gym floor. The next project has focused on putting the bleachers back together.
Our reporting partners at WICS ABC Newschannel 20 spoke with Brian O’Daniell, who says construction has gone smoothly because repairs have been continued from a previous project to the new building at the school.
“Luckily, with the new building project we had another gym built and all our basketball competitions and practices have been conducted in the new gym. Some kids have to go outside to get to class now, but they had to do that in the past for two years, so it’s really not that big a hindrance,” O’Daniell said.
O’Daniell hopes to have construction completed in the next few weeks and for the gym to be open sometime next month.
