Two batches of mosquitoes collected in Cass County have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

A press release from the Cass County Health Department indicates the mosquitoes that tested positive were collected on July 24th and 31st from the same area of the county. The positive result was yielded from lab work at Western Illinois University.

Health officials are reminding residents to reduce exposure to mosquitoes by avoiding being outdoors between dusk and dawn, when the insects are most active, wear shoes and socks, long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and report dead birds to your local health department through October 15th.
