Missing Milton Teen’s Body Discovered North of Pere Marquette State Park

The body of a missing teenager that was seen Sunday evening was found this afternoon north of Pere Marquette State Park in Jersey County.

WICS Newschannel 20 reports that 19-year old Bryar A. DeJaynes’ body was discovered near the Illinois River in a remote portion of Jersey County. Jersey County Coroner Kevin Ayres confirmed the discovery to WICS, per the report.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, as well as many volunteers had been searching for DeJaynes since Monday after he did not return to his job. His truck and trailer were found where he had placed a boat in the Illinois River on Sunday evening near Pearl Landing. DeJaynes boat was found abandoned near the area of the Jersey Glades, an area south of Nutwood, approximately 20 miles down river from Pearl.

According to family members, an unidentified fisherman who had been a part of a large search party with members of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, several other area law enforcement and volunteers was able to discover DeJaynes’ body. One of the two dogs that went missing with DeJaynes was also recovered. An all Black Labrador Retriever that goes by the name “Killer” remains missing.
