A vehicle versus tractor crash in Pike County yesterday left one Griggsville woman hospitalized.

According to reports from Illinois State Police District 20, the crash occurred at approximately noon yesterday on Illinois Route 104, a little more than a quarter-mile east of 400th Street.

Reports claim that 78-year old Charles McCormick, of Pittsfield, was driving a ’96 Ford Windstar, with 77-year old Carolyn Sunde, of Griggsville, as his passenger. The second vehicle, a John Deere tractor that police say was pulling a grain cart, was being driven by 19-year old Cole Daniel Tenhouse of Liberty.

Preliminary investigations say indicate that McCormick’s Windstar was attempting to pass Tenhouse legally in a passing zone. As McCormick attempted to pass, Tenhouse’s tractor began to turn into a farming field, causing McCormick’s car to come into contact with the rear tire of the tractor. The collision caused damage to the passenger side of McCormick’s vehicle, deploying the airbags and injuring the passenger Sunde.

Pike County EMS responded to the scene and Sunce was taken by ambulance to Illini Hospital for treatment. The severity of Sunde’s injuries remain unknown at this time.
