The primary election is just days away and you have the option to cast your vote this Saturday. The Morgan County Clerk’s office will open tomorrow morning at 9 and will stay open until noon. Morgan County Clerk Jill Waggener gives us a rundown for the next few days.

“We will be open this weekend, on Saturday we will be open 9am-12pm. for people to grace period register to vote and early voting. On Monday we will be open until 5pm. On Tuesday my office will be open for grace period register and voting only. You can come up and vote, you have to go out to your precinct.” said Waggener.

Waggener opened the Morgan County Clerk’s office doors last week even though it wasn’t mandatory. She says she registered about 13 voters last Saturday and she expects more people this weekend.

“I expect to have a pretty good turn out also, especially since the St. Patrick’s Day parade will be downtown and since people are downtown anyways, I hope they take advantage of early voting.” Waggener said.

It’s election season and that means it’s the busiest time of the year for Waggener and her staff. She says she and the rest of her crew will walk into the office around 4:30 in the morning Tuesday. Waggener talks about the number of people who have already registered and voted early.

“Every election is very busy for us. We only had about 300 people vote early in the office or by mail. All together, between grace period vote by mail and early voting, we’ve seen about 500. Not quite what I’ve seen in the past but from now until Tuesday, that might pick up a little bit.” Waggener said.

If you want to register and vote early or be a part of the grace period register to vote, head to the Morgan County Clerk’s office located at 300 West State Street in downtown Jacksonville. The office opens at 9 a.m.
