Jacksonville’s new PetSafe dog park is officially opening next Saturday, October 8th.

After winning the PetSafe “Bark For Your Park” online contest last July, Jacksonville received $100,000 for a new dog park.

The public is invited to attend ribbon cutting ceremonies with Mayor Andy Ezard at 10 a.m., followed by the annual Mutt Strut fundraiser.

On-site registration for the Mutt Strut will begin at 8:30 am. The Strut will start and end at the dog park with a route around Nichols Park. Registered participants will receive a t-shirt, doggy bandanas and doggy treat bags. Everyone is welcome and you do not need to bring a dog to participate in the Strut.

JDCF will be cooking out on the grill from 10 to 2. Also available will be professional photos with a fall display at 11. The pet costume contest will take place at noon with prizes for the winners. Fifty-fifty tickets will be available throughout the day with the winner announced at 1 pm.

All proceeds go towards additional items wanted for the dog park. WLDS-WEAI News will have coverage of the ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday.
