Part two of our coverage from the annual Corridor 67 meeting on Friday focuses on a pair of projects taking place in West Central Illinois.

Among the 280 combined miles proposed for Corridor 67 is new bridge over the Illinois River at Beardstown.

City Mayor Steve Patterson says a new bridge is vital to Beardstown’s future. Patterson pointed to frequent farming and fishing businesses in the area that use the bridge daily.

IDOT District Engineer Jeff South agreed with Patterson that the bridge is extremely important to Central Illinois.

The meeting also featured engineers and elected officials promoting the proposed Jerseyville bypass and extension of Corridor 67 North through Greene County.

Fellow IDOT District Engineer Jefferey Keirn says the bypass could become an important factor of development in the state.

Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer says the Corridor 67 project was originally introduced to him as just a small idea more than a decade ago. While construction progress in his district has been “fantastic”, Davidsmeyer is more focused on the future.
