Charges have been dropped against one of the Jacksonville men arrested for a shooting incident in October.
Charges of aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm were dropped against 22-year-old Skee Sanders of the 7-hundred block of North Main last Friday.
The state will continue pursuing charges against 32-year-old Perry Sykes, also of Jacksonville, who faces the same charges as Sanders faced.
Officers received a report of shots fired in the 11-hundred block of North Clay in the early morning hours of October 11th. Upon arrival, officers located a black female with a gunshot wound. Evidence was recovered during the investigation that indicates multiple shots were fired.
Morgan County State’s Attorney Bobby Bonjean explains why the state is no longer going after Sanders.
“At the end of last week, I was approached by the Jacksonville Police Department indicating they’ve obviously been continuing to investigate the shooting. Talking to additional witnesses, and after talking to some additional witnesses and getting a videotaped statement, they came to me and indicated that they felt that if that statement would have been given originally, and then obviously corroborated by the additional witnesses, Mr. Sanders wouldn’t have been arrested,” says Bonjean.
“So, at that time, I felt it necessary to dismiss the charge against Mr. Sanders.”
Sykes is next due in court next Tuesday.
