Grounds For Grace is running an operation at 310 North Main Street, where they will give away furniture, clothing and other supplies to those in need.
Dan Thompson with Grounds For Grace told Gary Scott on WLDS’ “AM Conversation” yesterday, that the organization is looking for volunteers, money and donations. He says the building will be open from 9:30 to 11:30 a-m on Wednesdays, and possibly Saturday if they get enough volunteers.
“It’s a really good service. There’s an unbelievable amount of homeless that we have in this town. We don’t have a constant volunteer, and so I said I would open it up on Wednesday and stay there for the two hours if I could just get a reliable individual to come and be with me,” says Thompson.
“We only get five to ten visitors. Not to say we want to be overwhelmed, but we want a whole lot of people bringing things. We’re there to serve.”
Thompson says Grounds of Grace works to rescue victims of slave trafficking and sexual abuse or exploitation.
“We have a safe house in Springfield. We may be getting one in Jacksonville soon. We’re working with Wells Fargo, who donated the one in Springfield,” he says.
