South Jacksonville and Jacksonville police officers, as well as Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies, have coordinated together for an active shooter awareness presentation at First Christian Church.
South Jacksonville Police Chief Josh Hallock says a similar presentation was provided at Turner Junior High this year and now the entire community is getting a chance to learn some valuable information tomorrow night.
“We believe very strongly here about community involvement. I don’t need to rehash what has happened in the news regarding active shooter incidents. We will educate the public about the basic warning signs and what should make your red flags go up. That way we can help people avoid a bad situation.”
Hallock says the principles provided can be applied to keep you safe during in any dangerous scenario.
“Anywhere you have human beings involved with each other you always have that potential that one of those human beings is having a very bad day. It could be at a school, a road rage incident or anywhere you are interacting with people.”
Law enforcement will teach those in attendance survival mentality, how to interact with law enforcement and first responders during a crisis and even provide a live demonstration of police responding to an active shooter.
The free event starts at 6 p.m. at First Christian Church, 2106 South Main.
