Ameren is reporting an electric supply rates decrease for customers in Illinois
in a press release this morning, Ameren said that electric supply rates for residential customers who receive electricity from Ameren Illinois are 5% lower than last year.
Richard Mark, chairman and president, of Ameren Illinois said that “Coupled with expected lower energy delivery bills, overall monthly electric rates are about 20% below the national average.”
The reduction is due to a decrease in the price of wholesale electricity which is
purchased for Ameren Illinois customers through a competitive procurement.
A typical residential customer who uses 10,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year will see annualized savings of approximately $22.
Supply costs are passed along to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis with no mark-up or profit. The new lower rate, effective in October, is listed as the “Basic
Generation Services” charge on energy bills.
Residential customers also have the option to obtain their electricity supply from a third party retail electric supplier (RES).
Even with the lower supply costs, Mark encourages customers to utilize Ameren
Illinois’ Energy Efficiency programs to further lower their bills.
Financial incentives are provided to qualifying customers for assistance in reducing energy consumption. For details, call Ameren Illinois at 866-836-6918 or visit amerenillinoissavings.com
