Ameren Illinois strengthening services in Morgan and Scott Counties

Ameren Illinois is in the process of constructing a 10-mile power line through Morgan and Scott Counties.

Spokesman Brian Bretsch says the project, which started in February, will go through Winchester, Alsey, Glasgow, Roodhouse and Exeter.

“We call this part of our infrastructure upgrades to our electrical grid. About every fifth or sixth pole we will be adding a fiberglass or wooden pole, that will seem larger than the rest down this 10-mile stretch.  Sometimes in storms when we have straight line winds, they have a tendency to snap a pole, and it has a domino effect,” says Bretsch.

Bretsch says these new poles are able to withstand higher wind speeds, especially along country roads.

Bretsch says the 10-mile stretch will also feature larger power lines.

“It is basically able to handle more traffic volume, more customer load and to meet future growth in those two counties,” says Bretsch.

Around 200 total poles are expected to be in place by the end of September, benefiting around 12-hundred customers.
