Around the Village website feature bringing community and trustees together

South Jacksonville residents are getting a closer look at day-to-day activities in the village thanks to an updated feature on southjacksonville.org.

For the past nine months, village resident Greg Nelson has volunteered his time providing general upkeep for the website.

In an effort to increase communication between village residents and trustees, Nelson has expanded the “Around the Village” section of the website.

“There is a side bar with a link to pay your water bill, and has a weather widget. I pulled the name from that because I think it is a good idea, but just a static space. You can’t update it, like a blog, where you put an entry, and you can just look at a previous entry,” says Nelson.

He says the feature will allow department heads to “tell their own stories” about what they are doing, the projects they are working on, and what is being accomplished.

During his time working for the village, Nelson says he has found that trustees don’t get the credit they deserve.

“It makes me feel bad to know they are working hard, and to see people not recognize that, because nobody is telling them what is going on. I had the idea to facilitate that communication,” he says.

Trustees will be given a tutorial so they can properly use the website’s new feature.
