HALLOWEEN EVENTS

Prairie State Bank and Trust in Jacksonville will be hosting a trunk-or-treat Thursday, October 17 from 5:30-7:30 PM.

 

Jacksonville Main Street will host their annual Pumpkin Festival on the city square Saturday, October 19th from 10 AM-2 PM. A petting zoo, face painting, a pie eating contest, and a costume contest are just a few of the many activities available! Cost is $10 per child.

 

The city of Virginia is hosting their Jack-o-lantern Spooktacular Saturday, October 19th at Jennie Marr Dunaway Memorial Park, located at 701 N Morgan St. Art in the Park starts at 8 AM and the Halloween parade starts at 6:30 PM. Wristbands are available for purchase at Petefish Skiles & Co. Bank in Virginia and from park board members.

 

Drive-Thru trick-or-treating on Thursday, October 24th from 4-6 PM at Prairie Land Heritage Museum grounds. Please enter through Gate 6 on Greenwood Ave. in South Jacksonville.

 

Trunk-or-treating on the city of Virginia square will happen on Friday, October 25th from 5:30-7:30 PM.

 

Come trick-or-treat at the Jacksonville Hy-Vee Saturday, October 26th from 10 AM-1 PM. Costumes are encouraged and there will be fun Halloween activities for the whole family!

 

The city of Greenfield will have trick-or-treating, costume competition, and camper decorating competition Saturday, October 26th at the Greenfield Rives Lake pavillion starting at 6 PM. Rives Lake is located at 2250 E, Greenfield.

 

Midwest Youth Services is hosting a trunk-or-treat Monday, October 28, from 5:30-7 PM at 2001 W. Lafayette Ave. in Jacksonville. The event is free to attend and will host a car decorating contest. All youth in attendance will receive a free Halloween basket, and a dinner of a hotdog, chips, cookie, and drink will be provided. Call 217-245-6000 with any questions. Trick-or-treating for the city of Virginia will take place Thursday, October 31st from 4-9 PM.

 

Jacksonville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is sponsoring a trick-or-treating event on Thursday, October 31st, from 4:30-7:30 PM at Knights Inn, Super 8, Best Western, and Hampton Inn on Morton Ave. Each location will have a different goodie as well as sweet treat for the trick-or-treaters. Locally designed Jacksonville Activity Books will also be available at one of the locations (limited quantities available).

 

The city of Greenfield will have trick-or-treating on October 30th & 31st from 5-8 PM. There will also be trunk-or-treating on the Greenfield city square October 31st from 6-8 PM.

 

Charity Southern Baptist Church, located at 101 Prairie St., in Greenfield will be hosting a trunk-or-treat on October 31st from 6-8 PM.

 

The village of Chandlerville announced trick-or-treating hours for October 30th & 31st are from 6-8 PM and reminds you to only visit houses with porch lights on.

Village of Manchester Flushing Hydrants

The Village of Manchester will be flushing fire hydrants beginning Monday, Aug. 5th. Residents may experience slight water discoloration and some loss of pressure when the fire hydrants are being flushed in their area.

Winter Storm Dismissals & Cancellations for Fri., January 12

WIT Semi-Final Game Carrollton vs Carlinville rescheduled to 10:00 Saturday.

The Rushville Industry HS Boys Basketball game at Beardstown today, Friday, January 12, has been postponed to tomorrow, Saturday, January 13 at 1:00 pm at Gard Elementary School.

Saturday’s girl’s wrestling tournament in Canton JHS was to participate in has been canceled.

Today’s Illinois College swim meet with Eastern Illinois University has been cancelled.

Western Illinois University campuses in Macomb and the Quad Cities will be closed for the weekend. Residence halls will remain open from 1-5 pm for students to check out.

All Culbertson Memorial Hospital Rural Health Clinics will be closing at 3 PM due to the weather.

Jacksonville Memorial Hospital’s drive-thru lab will be closed Monday & Tuesday due to the extreme cold. Lab services will still be available on the main floor of the hospital.

South Jacksonville Testing Tornado Siren Tuesday

GTSI will be working on and audibly testing the tornado sirens in the Village of South Jacksonville Tuesday, Dec. 12th at West Belmont and Vandalia. Testing will start at approximately 9 AM.

Jacksonville, South Jacksonville Under Snow Emergency

Jacksonville and South Jacksonville are under a Snow Emergency from 10 pm Tuesday, Feb. 1 through 10 pm Thursday, Feb. 3. Parking on the snow emergency routes is prohibited and motorists face the possibility that their vehicles will be removed and towed elsewhere.
Drivers are reminded to watch for snow removal crews so as to allow them room to do their work.  Persons clearing private parking lots and sidewalks are reminded to not plow the snow into the streets.

JPL Music Under the Dome Concert Postponed

The Jacksonville Public Library’s Music Under the Dome concert schedule for today, Sunday, Jan. 16 at 4PM with Stone & Snow has been postponed. The concert has been re-scheduled to 4PM Sunday, April 14th.
