The zip code of 62016 takes on new meaning later this month for a Greene County city.

Carrollton’s inaugural Zip Code Day is set for June 20th, says Carrollton Chamber of Commerce member Bernie Faul.

Several Carrollton based business will be getting involved with the afternoon of fun, including the city post office. Faul says unique post cards, envelopes and stamps, showcasing Carrollton’s history, will be offered throughout the day.

“On the post cards is the Henry T. Rainey statue, the cannon that sits right in front of our courthouse and an old city water tower with a jail in front of it.  The envelopes feature the post office as it is today with old cars in front of it and a picture of the old courthouse,” says Faul.

“Fry Park is a park in Carrollton and that was from Captain William Fry, who built one of the first eight-sided cornered barns. I put his farm on there. That is what the post mark is. We made it say Zip Meets Date Station.”

Faul says the Carrollton Chamber purchased handbags for the community, which will feature special items inside.

“Some of the businesses chose to put items in the bag and others chose to run specials on Zip Code Day,” says Faul.

Free swimming for kids will be offered at the Carrollton Municipal Pool from 1-4 p.m. that day. Cake and punch will be provided at the Carrollton Post Office.

Zip Code Day will run right up until the start of the Greene County Fair.
