State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer is reacting to the news that Senator Sam McCann is endorsing his opponent in next week’s primary election.

As previously reported, Senator Sam McCann, of Plainview, announced that he is endorsing Jonas Petty, the Republican challenger to incumbent C.D. Davidsmeyer in the primary race for Illinois’ 100th House District.

Davidsmeyer says that ultimately, MCCann is free to endorse whomever he wants, and that he’s focused on his own campaign.

“I think that everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. Sam and I have worked well together in the past and that’s his decision to make. At the end of the day, I’m a Republican, I’m going to pull a Republican ballot and I’m going to vote for the Republican nominee,” says Davidsmeyer.

Davidsmeyer says he was somewhat surprised by McCann’s endorsement of Petty.

“Yeah I was a little bit surprised, but it’s not too surprising once you hear it, so it’s not that big of a deal,” says Davidsmeyer.
