District 117 pushing for lower price tag on Jacksonville Middle School project

Representatives from BLDD and Holland Construction met with District 117 last night to discuss the Jacksonville Middle School project, which is extremely over budget.

Superintendent Steve Ptacek says the lengthy meeting broke down ways that expenditures could be reduced for the project. Ptacek believes District 117 is going to “reach an acceptable level” on the final price.

“The goal has been a $24-million project and I think we can get the total budget to the $26-million mark. That is less than 10-percent over and where I thought it would cost us in the long run. That includes around a million dollars in contingencies. Currently we are about $1.9 million above our original number, but we think we can get those numbers down.”

Ptacek says the project’s price tag will drop as more bids come in.

Construction for the Jacksonville Middle School project is scheduled to begin later this year.
