No one was injured when a vehicle caught fire on Route 267 near I-72 yesterday evening.
The South Jacksonville Fire and Police Departments responded to a call of a car fire at 6:18 Tuesday night. According to a report from South Jacksonville Fire Department Chief Rich Evans Jr., an unnamed woman was driving through the area from Ohio when an undetermined malfunction happened in the engine compartment of her 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe.
The driver told officials a warning light came on the dash and a few minutes later she noticed smoke coming from under the hood so she pulled over in front of the Qik n’ Ez convenience store.
Evans says the fire department arrived to find heavy fire and black smoke coming from the vehicle’s engine compartment. He says crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and saved numerous clothes and other belongings the driver had inside.
South Jacksonville Police blocked traffic and provided support for firefighters on scene. Evans says there were no injuries in the incident, and the vehicle was a total loss.
