Former Illinois College student being mourned following his death

Nineteen-year-old Corey Moore died over the weekend at a St. Louis hospital after suffering injuries from a gas furnace explosion in Brighton, according to Alton media reports. Moore was apparently celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Moore transferred from Illinois College this year. According to a press release from the school, he was enrolled as a first-year student in the Fall of 2014. He was involved in the Phi Alpha Literary Society, TRiO Student Support Services Program, and a member of the football team.

The press release says, “[Moore] was a beloved and active student…Illinois College expresses its sincerest condolences to Moore’s family and friends.”

Moore’s younger brother was also injured and is recovering at a St. Louis hospital, according to reports.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation is today at the church from 4 until 8 p.m.
